The theme for Day Eight was the “Best Conversation I had this Week.” Not in a crazy person, out loud kinda way – my best conversation was with me. Yesterday I had to talk myself into doing a few things: wearing shorts, running in Central Park and to keep running! My most stubborn spots live on my legs, so I never wear shorts. (or skirts without tights and I depend on maxi dresses in the summer) But it was a gorgeous, sunny sixty degrees and I figured the sun could only help those stubborn little guys. I figured by the time anyone got to wondering what was going on with my legs, I’d be far enough past them to care about their reaction anyways. I don’t want to jinx this by saying anything too soon, but I’ve seen a major difference since I changed my eating habits and added the turmeric to my daily supplements. With that extra confidence boost, I put on my brand new running shorts and hit the crazy streets of NYC.
Next, I had to convince myself to stay away from the East River and head to Central Park. This may sound really odd, but running in Central Park intimidates the hell out of me. All those seasoned runners in their fancy gear knowing the proper running etiquette and which direction is the correct way to run. I usually run along the East River, but it maxes out at about eight miles and I needed to hit eleven. So yesterday I finally conquered my fear and ran a whopping 11.01 miles in the park. I definitely did run in the wrong direction at some points (and sometimes in the bike lane) and I had to stop and check my map to see where I was a few times (Honestly, I don’t know where I’d end up without Google Maps). But rookie mistakes aside, I did it! Luckily, I love to people watch and there was a lot happening in the park yesterday – tourists, puppies, horses, kids, Easter bunnies, rap groups – you know, the norm.
Lastly, convincing myself to keeping running through the full 11+ (.01 absolutely does count as a +) miles was the toughest part. Running is such a mental game and the only person who can make you keep going is yourself. I’ve never run 11 miles before at a time, so it was pretty scary. But yesterday was the first time since I signed up for the race that I actually felt like I’ll be able to run the full 13.1 miles needed. It was hard and there times when I wanted to stop, but I got to be my own mental cheerleader to keep my feet moving (Hold on wait a minute, put a little BOOM in it!)
