A New Psoriasis Flare Up After Pregnancy

To the delight of her big sister, we welcomed Nico Shea into the world on September 27, 2016. Along with a lack of sleep, we have been enjoying her baby snuggles and smiles for the past 7 weeks. In addition to our new addition, we moved from NYC to the New Jersey suburbs at the beginning of September. Because who doesn’t want to pack up an apartment with a toddler while 9 months pregnant in the hottest summer ever? Our lease was up and our building would only welcome us to stay for a mere incremental $700 a month! We hadn’t not found a house yet, so we packed it up and are temporarily staying at my father-in-law’s house. But just last week we put in an offer for our dream house in Princeton, NJ and are in contract! I’m so excited for us to get settled into our forever home and to get these girls into a routine!

So a quick recap – in the past 3 months, I’ve moved in with the in-laws, had a baby, and bought a house! All great and exciting things, but very stressful and in the midst I’ve started flaring. It started with a spot here and there, and now I’m finding new, itchy red clusters daily. Follow me on instagram @justagirlwithspots to see what exciting shapes they’re forming in.

Just like when I was pregnant with Reece, I did not have any problems with my skin while pregnant with Nicki. In fact, I had spots that cleared up pretty early in my pregnant. But also like last time, I am now flaring up after a few weeks postpartum. I don’t know if its the stress of life right now or that my magical pregnancy hormones are finally gone and my body has gone back to its regular old self. I had a very successful vbac this time around and am still amazed at what my body is capable of doing, so I know it has it in me to fight this disease.

Since I’m nursing, I don’t want to start any prescription treatments and am sticking to natural topical treatments, specifically coconut oil and apple cider vinegar.

Can you share any advice for natural remedies in the comments?

  1. My favorite natural topical is Sorian cream. It is available on amazon. My vote on the flare-ups is the hormone change.

  4. Congrats on the new little person recently added to your family !

I have had psoriasis for 3 years now, and recently tried Aloe Vera juice (drinking it twice a day) combined with applying Aloe Vera gel on my skin and it has really helped a lot.
